Signing in, your PIN, your phone

I'm new. How do I get started?

Everything you need, in five steps:

  1. Open cadetdeck.app on your phone and add it to your Home Screen (needed for alerts on an iPhone: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen).
  2. Type your six-digit CAPID.
  3. Choose a six-digit PIN (not 123456 or 111111) and type it twice. You will use it every time.
  4. Each week, tap Going or Not Going by Friday at 11:59 PM. If you miss it, you can answer once, with a reason, until 6:30 PM on meeting day.
  5. Turn on alerts when asked.

Flight Commanders, Flight Sergeants and Executive Staff need a one-time code from an administrator the first time. Forgot your PIN? Ask an administrator.

How do I sign in the first time?

Cadets do not need a code: CadetDeck asks you to choose a PIN the first time. Flight Staff and Executive Staff get a one-time code from an administrator for their first sign-in.

  1. Open CadetDeck and type your six-digit CAPID. CadetDeck recognizes it and shows the next step by itself.
  2. Choose a six-digit PIN you will remember (not your CAPID), and type it a second time.
  3. Tap Set my PIN and sign in.

After that, you only need your CAPID and your PIN. Keep your PIN private.

I forgot my PIN.

Ask an administrator. They create a one-time reset code and give it to you. Then tap Set up or reset my PIN/password on the sign-in screen and enter your CAPID, the code, and a new PIN. Your meeting history is not affected.

It says my code is wrong or expired.

Each code works once and lasts 24 hours. Check that you typed all eight digits. If it still does not work, ask an administrator for a new one. Only the newest code works.

It says my sign-in is already set up, but I never did that.

Tell a staff member right away. They can reset your PIN so only you know it, and they can see in the audit history when it was set. Until then, do not worry about your records: nobody can change your responses without it being recorded.

It says too many attempts.

Wait five minutes and try again. The pause only affects you, on the device you were using. Check your CAPID (six digits) and that your PIN is six digits too. If you keep having trouble, ask an administrator for a new code.

What can I use as a PIN?

Any six digits except your CAPID, repeats like 111111 or 121212, and runs like 123456 or 654321. Pick something you will remember but others will not guess. Never share it. You can change it later from Account after you sign in.

Why did CadetDeck sign me out?

For your safety, CadetDeck signs you out after 15 minutes without activity, and an administrator can sign everyone out in an emergency. Just sign in again. Anything you already sent is saved.

How do I put CadetDeck on my phone?

iPhone or iPad: open CadetDeck in Safari, tap the Share button, choose Add to Home Screen.

Android: open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Can I use dark mode or larger text?

Yes. Tap Account at the top. Under Display and feedback, Appearance has three choices: System follows your phone or computer (dark when your device is), Light and Dark stay that way. Larger text and Higher contrast are there too. These are saved on the device you are using, not on your account, so set them on each phone or computer you use. Printed pages are always light.

Do I need alerts?

No. Alerts are a bonus, not a requirement, and a phone can miss one. They do help your flight: in the flight standings, every member with alerts on earns their flight points each meeting. Check CadetDeck yourself every Wednesday night. If you want alerts, tap Turn on in the Get set up card under your answer on Home (or open Account, then Alerts). Until you answer, you will keep getting a reminder each day, and several on meeting day, up to the 6:30 PM Late deadline. Once you answer, they stop. On Android and on a computer, reminders sent before the deadline have Going and Not Going buttons: tap one to answer without opening the app (it only records a first answer; change it in CadetDeck). On an iPhone, tap the alert to open CadetDeck. Tapping Sign out turns off alerts on that device (so a shared phone or computer stops getting your reminders); turn them on again from Home after you sign back in. On an iPhone, first tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open CadetDeck from that icon.

What do Going, Not Going, Leave, Late and NR mean?

Going and Not Going are your answers. Leave means you are away for a while and do not have to answer Calldowns: Executive Staff or an administrator sets it, and every Calldown shows Leave for you until they remove it. You stay in your flight, but while on Leave you do not count toward it, and the squadron chart lists you under On Leave. Late marks an answer sent after the Friday deadline. NR means No Response: you did not answer that meeting. The number next to it is how many meetings in a row you missed.

What is the line at the top of Home?

It is your next step: the one thing worth doing right now, picked from what CadetDeck already knows. In this order: answer the Calldown (it names the points your answer earns your flight and when the early points end), or send a Late answer before 6:30 PM; for a Flight Commander or the First Sergeant, a plan that is due within three days or late; for staff, members who have not answered yet; then turn on alerts, then join your GroupMe. Tap it and the page scrolls to the card where you do it (or opens Plans). It only points: the action itself stays in its own card. When nothing is left, it says You're all set for this week.

Something in CadetDeck is not working.

Tap Account at the top, then Report a problem. Say what you tapped, what you expected and what happened instead. It goes to the administrators with your name, the screen you were on and your type of phone or computer, so they can fix it. Never include your PIN. Up to five reports a day. This is only for problems with the app: for anything about someone's safety, tell a trusted adult leader in person.

Who can see my information?

Cadets see only their own record (plus the flight standings and the Squadron chart, which everyone sees). Staff see what their job needs. The full list is on the Privacy and data use page, and the rules for using CadetDeck are in the Terms of use.

I'm an administrator and can't sign in.

Administrators sign in with a password of at least 12 characters. If it is lost, the person who maintains CadetDeck can use the recovery page at /recover with the recovery secret to get a one-time setup code.
